DAUNTLESS - 1. The Module assembly

10/5/2006

The first Type 45 module block to be moved out onto the famous Govan slipways. I have put together a run of pics from the time of DAUNTLESS' assembly. I will follow this up with a run of pics of her being fitted out. I also have a collection of pics from RFA CARDIGAN BAY's construction. Once they are sorted I will post. The next few pics were taken from Pride of the Clyde. Work on the new tidal gate can be seen.

A nice sight to see up close.

7/6/2006

A view across from Meadowside. The bridge block can be seen taking shape in the Govan modular hall. CARDIGAN BAY in the fitting out basin.

Also seen that day was Block 3. Now out onto the slips and waiting to be moved down into place.

That was the scene on the 23rd June 2007.

A closer look at the seem before the covers go on.

A look over.

DAUNTLESS - 6

10/9/2006

A few views from the much missed Pride of the Clyde. All modules are now in place and as you can see the covers are up for the welders to do their stuff.

The new tidal gate on the slipway can be seen. This gate allows the yard access to the stern and props no matter what the height of the tide is.

Not much to catch until nearer the end of the year.

DAUNTLESS - 7

6/1/2007

The first sight of a ready to launch Type 45. Excuse the poor light. The yard position doesn't suit winter photography.

Midnight on the 22/1/2007. The first minutes of her launch day. Looking beautiful on a winters night on the Upper Clyde.

14 hours to launch. OPV 30 in the basin.

Monday, 26 May 2008

DAUNTLESS - 8. Launch day.

23/1/2007

Launch day for DAUNTLESS. The first Type 45 to be launched down the famous Govan slipways.

I decided to Video the Launch.

Afloat for the first time.

LYME BAY and OPV 30 were in the basin for the launch. A video I took of the yard pre-launch can be Seen Here. I'll follow this series of pics with a series on her fitting out. Regards to all.

WAVERLEY

WAVERLEY

She was in Garvel's drydock because of problems relating to her paddle shaft. Hopefully she will be back in service soon.

I'm not her biggest fan but she does look amazing for her age. A credit to all involved in her upkeep.

James Watt dock - Greenock

A trip doon the watter on a quiet saturday evening. WAVERLEY alongside the Garvel repair berth. The Svitzer fleet at home and the old Sugar Warehouses to the right. Plus the JWD Titan.

The Svitzer base with the Inchgreen dry dock cranes in the backgound.

All at home on a quiet weekend.

The James Watt dock Titan with a Calmac ferry in Garvel's dry dock.

SD COLONEL TEMPLER

Operated by Serco Denholm and part of the fleet of vessels that help run Faslane. More info on her can be Read Here.

SOSPAN DAU

SOSPAN DAU - 1,870 grt

She is a Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger and was seen here tonight just at the point were the river Leven flows into the Clyde. She is dredging the mouth of the Leven and discharging her load in Kingston basin in Port Glasgow. A video of her filling in the Kingston basin can be Seen Here.
