BATTLER

A few views of this smart little Clyde Marine tug. DAUNTLESS (D33) still in No.3 dry dock at Scotstoun.

She had arrived early for the assisting of APOLLO CONDOR into KGV dock and spent an hour hanging around in the sun.

At work with BVT Govan and the top of the Glasgow Tower in the background.

Job done, hometime.

A beautiful night for the sail back down to Greenock.

Final shot as she passes KGV dock and my batteries go flat. Doh! Not much has been happening upriver.

APOLLO EAGLE

APOLLO EAGLE - 4,255 grt

Seen on Fair Monday as she met up with BATTLER. She was making her way upto the cement berth at KGV. More of her details can be Read Here.

A lack of bow thrusters means APOLLO EAGLE needs assisted with her swing.

Stern first

A final view as she heads up the dock and out of shot.

BATTLER

BATTLER

At the mouth of KGV dock. Looking good with a very light looking SAMOS SKY still alongside Shieldhall.

HMS MIDDLETON

M34 - MIDDLETON

First of the two Royal Navy mine sweepers that were seen this afternoon passing BVT Scotstoun.

Seen here passing a fellow Scotstoun built ship. HMS DARING.

A nice moment in time here. She was built in the hall seen off her stern, slipping down those very ways almost 25 years ago. She is one of only two ships that were built in the GRP hall. Glass Re-inforced Plastic. As has been documented on here, the hall is in the proccess of being pulled down.
Nice to see a final sail past by one of its products before the hall disappears.

HMS QUORN

M41 - QUORN

Following closely behind MIDDLETON.

Heading out past Yoker.

BITER

BITER

Part of the Clyde Marine fleet based down at Greenock. She had been assisting the two mine sweepers off their berths up Stobcross quay and was following them downriver.

SPARTAN & RED COUNTESS

The Puffer SPARTAN being assisted downriver by the tug RED COUNTESS. Seen here passing the neglected Govan dry docks.
Puffer's like SPARTAN were once a common sight on the upper Clyde. Bringing their cargoes right up to the city centre berths like the Broomielaw & Customs House quay.

Passing Govan shipyard. More info on SPARTAN and her history can be Read Here.

River Festival scenes - 1

I decided to take myself along to the first day of the Glasgow River Festival. Now in it's 5th year. Just like last weekends T in the Park, the rain stayed away. A great day out for anyone. The Festival is being held over this weekend, the first weekend of the traditional Glasgow Fair fortnight. An anual two week period in mid July were in the past just about all the big Works would close for a holiday. Today it is still an anual holiday period in the city. A lot of workers in the city will have Monday off work.
Anyway, Congratulations to All the Team involved in putting together the festival. A great day out. If your in the area tomorrow and don't like golf then it is worth popping along.

Always nice to see something berthed in Princes dock. This is JACINTA. She is Fleetwood's Heritage Trawler and was open for all to go onbaord. Very interesting ship, more on her later.

Many gin palaces and small yatchs berthed in Princes dock.

Great to see folk being taken out onto the river in these boats. The boat above is WHITEFORELAND and was rowed up to Glasgow from Greenock by a very hardy bunch. Well done.

Apart form a bit of a breeze it was a lovely day.

River Festival scenes - 2

THE SECOND SNARK heading downriver for a short cruise. Glasgow University in the background and the Heliport to the left.

Passing the tall ship GLENLEE.

ST MUNGO making sure she is noticed. Nice move lads.

Away for another flask full of tea. ;-)

Just to give you all an idea how windy it was. Thankfully it kept the clouds on the move. Good day to get the washin' out.
