SD CLYDE SPIRIT on her way upriver on thursday afternoon. I'm not sure what role she plays in the Serco Denholm fleet. Any info would be welcome.

Shieldhall visitors

I'm a bit pushed for time so a quick post of what I caught on thursday night.

ALADIN 1 having just swung out from her berth at Shieldhall with two ships alongside the scrap berth at Shieldhall.

A closer look as she heads downriver.

Nice to see two ships berthed alongside the Shieldhall scrap berth.

ALADIN 1 - inbound

ALADIN 1 - 1,499 grt

Seen here this afternoon as she arrived in for Shieldhall. Passing BVT Scotstoun (Yarrows) in the driving rain. DARING alongside the Wall and DIAMOND in No.2 dry dock.
Click Here for more info on ALADIN 1.

Passing the original Yarrow slipways and fitting out berth. Now used as a yard storage area.

Passing the modern Yarrows slips. Once the slipways of Blythswood Shipbuilders. They were taken over by Yarrow after the neighbouring Blythswood yard closed. Yarrows removed the hammerhead cranes and covered the slipways. Home to the Type 23's when they were being constructed and birthplace of the first Type 45 - DARING. My noisey, but nice neighbours.

A great view of the area back in the 1930's can be Seen Here. A view that looks down the length of the waterfont you've just seen. A stretch of riverside less than a half mile long. The Blythswood shipyard at the bottom, Yarrow's original yard further up and Barclay & Curle's Scotstoun West yard and dry dock at the top. A lot of the original buildings still stand strong to this day. A good few being used during the fitting out of the Type 45 Destroyers.

Svitzer's fine looking tug was caught yesterday evening as she made her may back downriver. She had been up at Princes dock in Govan for something. She is seen here, off Yoker, making space for Waverley to pass.
