ARKLOW VIKING

ARKLOW VIKING - 2,829 grt

She had arrived in alongside Shieldhall riverside on friday. Once she had discharged whatever load she was carrying she then shifted over to Diesel wharf to take on a load of scrap metal. HMS BLYTH

HMS BLYTH - M111

Seen this evening as she headed downriver having just past the drydocks at BVT Scotstoun. DIAMOND (D34) hiding in No.3 drydock and DAUNTLESS (D33) alongside the Wall. HMS BLYTH was the first of the River Festival visitors to depart. She is a Sandown Class Mine-Countermeasures Vessel, her Royal Navy homepage can be Viewed Here.

Seen this evening whilst in at Lobnitz basin to collect a load of scrap metal. She was last here back in January 2009. More of her details can be Read Here.

Glasgow 2009

Forget our amazing maritime past and build a tacky future!

I wonder if the Tower will last as long as this old Capstan that lies neglected in Govan dry docks. The Capstan and the Crane are all that remain. The shot below is from 2006 and is almost like for like with This Shot taken 25 years ago.

Seaplane

Loch Lomond Seaplanes Cessna 208 Caravan coming into water down on the Clyde at Glasgow Harbour on Saturday evening. She has a pontoon berth in Prince's dock. The RIB is an escort for when she has to taxi to and from her berth. More details on the seaplane can be Read Here.

MINNA - inbound

FPV MINNA

The Clydebuilt Fisheries Protection Vessel MINNA heading upriver this afternoon. She is another of the bigger ships attending the 2009 River Festival. The others being POLE STAR and HMS BLYTH. Following MINNA upriver was the Clydebank bound tanker BRO GARLAND.
Dumbarton Castle over to the right and Inverclyde further downriver to the left. The land to the immediate left hand side has been developed into a nice looking golf course.

Arriving at Prince's dock 50 minutes later. Yorkhill quay looking a sorry state in the background.


Alongside the knuckle at the entrance to Prince's dock, her berth for the weekend. The tower from the former Queen's dock pumphouse can be seen in the background. The helicopter belongs to Strathclyde Police and is based at the Glasgow Heliport.

Heading upriver this afternoon with BRUISER in attendance and PINNAU heading downriver . She was on her way up to visit Rothesay dock for the first time having only come into service this year. More of her details can be Read Here.

Another couple of shots of the old girl. Heading downriver tonight with a healthy load on board, possibly a private charter.


Heading down past Clydebank waterfront with the remains of the slipways from the old John Brown East yard exposed by the low tide.

SCOT VENTURE - inbound

Seen here this afternoon arriving in for KGV dock. I think she is in with a load of plywood. She headed upto No.3 berth at KGV. More of her details can be Read Here.


Prince's dock

Some views of Prince's dock from this afternoon. MINNA berthed alongside the entrance to the dock with Clydeport's TORCH heading into the dock to fix more pontoon into posotion.


Clyde Marine Services CRUISER next to the Imax Cinema. Starting on Monday the 27th Clyde Marine Services will operate a daily cruise downriver. Departing from the SECC pontoon at 1300 and returning at 1530. These daily trips downriver will stop off at Braehead and Clydebank before heading downriver to the Erskine bridge. POLE STAR

POLE STAR

One of the bigger ships attending this years Glasgow River Festival. She is berthed at Stobcross quay under the famous Stobcross crane. She is operated by the Northen Lighthouse Board. The round building to the left is the North Rotunda. Once the Northbank entrance to the old pedestrian tunnel that ran under the Clyde, it still does but its closed off. I think her name is CLANTHONY. Seen here passing the BVT Scotstoun shipyard on her way upto the SECC pontoon.

VILMA heading upriver with a new riverside skyline taking shape on the Northbank.


Heading into Prince's dock with the old Govan dry docks lying in ruin. The houses in the background were built on the land that used to be Harland & Wolff's Govan shipyard. The cranes belong to BVT Govan.

TORCH

Clydeport's multi role vessel TORCH working alongside Planation quay yesterday afternoon. She was positioning pontoons ahead of this weekends Glasgow River Festival. The Millenium bridge is open to let some of the early festival arrivals berth at the SECC pontoon.

Riverside Museum update

A look across to the new Riverside Museum that is taking shape at Pointhouse. The new stretch of quayside to the right of the new building is were the entrance to the old Yorkhill Basin was.
The museum is due to open in 2011.
