Type 45 progress

A look at the Type 45 progress on the River Clyde, Glasgow. Over at BAE Govan the final Type 45, DUNCAN (D37), is under construction. Over the course of Friday and Saturday the bow and bridge section was moved down the slip into it's final position. With the module hall now clear of Type 45 blocks, Govan has now started work on their share of the Aircraft Carrier programme. More details on the Carrier's can be Read Here.

Frozen Clydeside

A run of shots from our recent cold spell. These were taken on the 8th of January with the temperature at -9 degree Celsius. Above is the rare sight of a frozen Prince's dock.

Govan dry docks were also frozen solid. This is No.1 dry dock.

No.2 at Govan.

No.3 is the biggest of the dry docks at Govan. A maritime masterpiece lying in a very sad state. Glasgow's Shame!

The iced over entrance to Prince's dock.

Looking up towards the city centre. The channel was frozen from this point all the way up to the tidal wier.

WAVERLEY alongside Plantation quay.

The old girl spent a few days surrounded by a couple of inches of ice. BBC Scotland in the background. Take care of your new blinds please.

The early hours of the 23/12/09 and an opposite view from the previous shot. WAVERLEY's funnels at the bottom left and the new Riverside museum over at Pointhouse. The No.1 dry dock at Govan can be seen through the funnel haze. Our city leaders chose to leave the Govan dry docks in a mess and build a new Riverside Museum over at Pointhouse. The old dry docks would have made a very fine Glasgow Maritime Museum. Instead we'll have a shocking attempt to celebrate our maritime history over at Pointhouse. Pathetic!
